Faiq is the son of Jefri Bolkiah, Prince of Brunei and nephew of Hassanal Bolkiah, the current Sultan of Brunei.
In the case of inheritance, which is estimated at $20 billion, he can become the world’s richest player.
He was born 9 May 1998 in Los Angeles and holds both Brunei and United States citizenship. Educated in Great Britain at Bradfield College Faiq Bolkiah plays as a midfielder for the reserve side of Premier League club Leicester City and the Brunei national team.
In addition, he serves as the captain of the national team.
In 2009, being a member of A.F.C. Newbury, Bolkiah signed a 1-year deal with the Southampton F.C. Academy, who is famed for growing young talents. He was still with Southampton until at least December 2011.
In 2014, Bolkiah signed a 2-year youth contract with Chelsea after previously training with Reading and trialing with Arsenal.
During his time with Arsenal, Bolkiah competed in the 2013 Lion City Cup against Corinthians, Eintracht Frankfurt, PSV Eindhoven, and a Singapore youth selection.
He even managed to score a goal in a 2–1 victory over the team from Singapore.
Due to his contract with Chelsea expiration in summer 2016, he left the team in December 2015. After a trial with Stoke City, he signed for Leicester City on a reported 3-year professional contract in March 2016.
Bolkiah was eligible to represent the United States and Brunei.
To say more, he was even scouted for the youth teams of the United States. But his choice fell to represent Brunei, doing so at the U19 and U23 levels including at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games.
For today he has played nine times scoring only one goal.
Reportedly, while at the age of 7, his dad Jefri wanted to celebrate his milestone 50th birthday, at the same time to impress his son.
So he brought “King of Pop” Michael Jackson to perform a private concert for him and his family. He paid Jackson around £12.5 million for the privilege, which was easy money for the Brunei royal family back then.
It is extraordinary when such people choose the absolutely weird way to live. Commonly members of their royal family continue their business, but Faiq Bolkiah is an exception from the rule.
“I’ve played football since as early as I can remember and from a young age I’ve always enjoyed going out on the field and having the ball at my feet,” he once said in a rare interview.
