British boxer Anthony Joshua has just defeated Wladimir Klitschko and here is his dieting secret

British professional boxer Anthony Joshua has just added the WBA world heavyweight title to his IBF crown. In the toughest challenge of his career, Joshua has knocked out former unified world heavyweight champion from Ukraine Wladimir Klitschko at London Wembley Stadium.

Let’s take a look at how AJ managed to achieve this tremendous success over world-famous almost unbeatable Ukrainian boxer. All discipline and devotion to training and dieting plans gave AJ an opportunity to win.

British 27-year-old boxer Joshua is almost 2 metres high and has 113 kg of weight, while Klitschko is 41 and 108 kg in weight.

So what is special about AJ’s diet? Mark Ellison, Joshua’s specialist in nutrition spoke about it in the interview. If in brief, Joshua has been taking 4,500 – 5,000 calories to fuel himself for the fight.

And here comes Anthony Joshua’s meal plan:

  • Breakfast: 5 eggs, some avocados, lime, a little bit of seasoning, spinach, three pieces of toast, smoothie with fruits, oats, yogurt, milk and honey.
  • Lunch: pasta, vegetables, tomatoes and two chicken breasts. A large pot of yogurt with fruit, honey, nuts and granola for dessert.
  • Dinner: a lot of protein! Fish, sweet potato, quinoa, rice and fruit juice. Another protein shake AJ gets before sleep so that next day he wakes up charged.

Despite serious discipline in food, Joshua allows some treats to himself as he is fond of chocolate. Sometimes he gets an apple pie.

The diet changes a bit on the day of the fight. Instead of the regular wholegrain carbohydrates, he sticks to white rice and white pasta. White meat is preferred over the red one. Joshua gets his last meal 3-4 hours before the fight.

As for the caffeine,  it is allowed in general but completely banned a week before the fight. Nevertheless, AJ gets some on the day of the fight, so that he could get the final energy burst.
