This story would be a strong motivation for those not willing to change themselves, for those who are trying to find a reason in order not to go to the gym.
Dareen was just 15 years old when she was told that she had an aggressive form of bone cancer. Because of this, she was required to have her left leg amputated just above the knee. Though she was still young, she was old enough to understand that frequent visits to the doctors office would be on the cards for the foreseeable future. The life she knew would now be changed. How she could adapt to this change will play a huge part in her life.
Having a limb amputated is life-changing for those who go through it. In some cases, it can be because of internal issues such as bone cancer, as Dareen had. For others, it can be because of an accident that has resulted in them losing their limb. Whilst nothing can bring back that limb, there are ways that people can be supported during this time, with one of these ways being that they speak to amputation lawyers (people can click here to learn more about this), so they can have the best supportive care as they navigate this new way of life.
Thanks God, with the support of her family and friends she managed to pick herself up. That case has made her train like an athlete. She wanted to prove that she is still alive and nothing can stop her.
That’s what she says about her life: “My journey started four years ago when a life changing accident (other than my amputation) made me decide to get fit, turn my life around and live a healthy Athletic lifestyle. My hip fracture left me devastated and broken, but I decided to rehabilitate myself, go to the gym and work hard which resulted in losing 25kg in one year, I realized that I must take a radical decision to change my life and be happy, and invest in myself and in what I have. I am the proof that if you believe in yourself, make a plan and work hard; you will definitely achieve your goals.”
For today, Dareen Barbar has a title of the WBFF transformation winner. She works as a motivational speaker for Scitec UAE team: Big & Fit Nutrition.
Now she is 38, married to Ramzi Gholmieh, who has taken her to Dubai. The couple has 2 children.
“We have the power to change our lives, when we find ourselves unable to do something in life it is in this moment that a great ability within us is born, keep the faith and don’t give up!”
